The National Technological University (U.T.N) was created on October 14th 1959, through Act 14.855, integrating the national university system since then. The UTN emerges then, as a National University with the specific function of creating, preserving and transmitting universal culture and technique in the field of technology, being the only National University in the country whose academic structure is centered in engineering courses. The UTN has been participating actively in the development of Argentina through its close link with the productive system. Institutional characteristics The National Technological University has two characteristics that differentiate it from the rest of the national university system. It is the only university in the country whose academic structure has as a prime objective the engineering courses. It is important to highlight that more than 30,000 professionals have graduated from the UTN’s 15 degree programs since its creation (Act 14855, 1959). UTN has a federal character because it reaches all regions in Argentina. It has 22 Regional Faculties and 7 Academic Units located in the North East region, (Chaco, Entre Ríos, Santa Fe), North West region (La Rioja, Tucumán), Central region (Capital Federal and Buenos Aires, Córdoba, Mendoza) and the South region (Chubut, Neuquén, Santa Cruz and Tierra del Fuego). This is reflected in a permanent and close link with the regional productive systems and a fruitful academic exchange at a national level. Besides, its geographical extension is translated into a capacity to absorb students (70,000 students pursuing courses) that is equivalent to more than 50% of all the Engineering students in the country.

Instituto Universitario Aeronáutico (University Aeronautic Institute)

www.iua.edu.ar

The University Aeronautic Institute (IUA) in the Argentine Air Force (FAA), was created under the name of Aeronautic Engineering School on December 13th, 1947, incorporating into the National University System in 1971 (Decree No. 3179/71). Its present name was approved through Resolution No. 3/93 from the Ministry of Culture and Education, which categorizes it as a University Institute, and through Act 24521, it forms part of the National University Institutions. The IUA’s objective is to give university education, carry out scientific and technological research, cultural outreach actions and technological transference, in order to contribute to the FAA’s mission accomplishment, in agreement with the aerospace interests of the nation. The Distance Learning mode in 1987 gave it a new profile by bringing the university closer to the most remote places in Argentine geography. In 1996, the IUA put into orbit the µsat I satellite "Víctor", a result of long years of aeronautic and space research; thus being part of the privileged group of universities in the world that have attained this scientific accomplishment. It is due to the excellence level obtained through its history that the Institute became a fundamental pillar of the past, present and future of Córdoba and Argentina.
